Following the success of our Soirèe "Explorations in Synesthesia", in which Joseph Gascho teamed with Don Winkler of the International Wine Review to pair harpsichord works with fine wines, we are launching occasional "Music & Wine Pairing Notes" focusing on such pairings. In the attached video, noted harpsichordist Leon Schelhase pairs the sweet straw wine Olerasay, produced by Mullineux Wines, South Africa, with François Couperin's Les Laurentines [Ordre 3ème de Clavecin C minor]. Enjoy!
On March 12, Leon Schelhase (Curtis Institute of Music) used J.S. Bach's Manual of Ornamentation as the starting point for a highly informative Class on "Baroque Ornamentation for Pianists: Learning from the Harpsichord".
Leon guided attendees through some of the most commonly used ornaments in Baroque keyboard works, explained their usage & functions, & discussed how the ornaments might be employed on the piano.
